FAQ - Applying to RMA

Frequently Asked Questions about the Application Process:

How can I find out information about Rowlett Middle Academy?
We encourage our interested families to attend an application informational session to find out more about our school and the programs we offer.  This is the perfect platform to ask additional questions, tour our school, and meet members of our faculty.  Exploring our website is also a wonderful resource for information.

How can I apply if I do not have a computer or internet access?
Contact our school for assistance.  We are more than glad to provide you with the needed paperwork for applying, registering, and enrolling.

Can I list all my children on one application?
No, an application packet needs to be completed for each student who desires to attend RMA.

If my child is a current student, do I need to apply again each year?
No, your child automatically has a space in the appropriate grade level for the next school year if the Intent to Return form is completed by the deadline.

If I have one child who currently attends RMA and I would like another one of my children to attend RMA, what should I do?
You need to fill out and complete all required application forms during the open enrollment for the other child.  Please remember to list the currently enrolled student under the “sibling” section of the application to receive sibling preference in the lottery.

The Open Application Period has ended, am I still able to apply?
We continuously accept complete application packets.  If there is a seat available in the grade level that you are applying for, an offer will be made by phone or through email.  If there are no openings in the grade level you are applying for, your child’s application will be placed on the waiting list in the date order once all required application paperwork has been received.

I am currently on the waiting list.  Does the waiting list expire once the new lottery is run or does it carry over?
Applications are year specific.  Applications submitted for the current school are only valid for that school year.  If your child is currently on the waiting list, please submit a new application during the next school year’s Open Application period.

If my child is on the waiting list, do I need to contact you to find out where he/she stands on the list?
Parents will be contacted by phone or email as soon as their child’s name moves to the position that will allow them placement.

My child is on the waiting list but has moved down a spot.  How is this possible?
Undoubtedly this is frustrating.  We follow the preferences permitted by the State of Florida (sibling, military, employee, etc.) For example, when one sibling is accepted and has another sibling on the waiting list in another grade, that waitlisted sibling gets an enrollment preference, meaning they move to the top of the waitlist.

What happens if my child’s name is chosen during the lottery?
You will be contacted by phone or email if your child is offered a seat.  Once your student receives an offer, confirm the acceptance and you will need to complete and return all required paperwork within 14 calendar days.

What happens if my child’s name is chosen after the lottery?
You will be contacted by phone or email if your child is being offered a seat after the lottery period or during the summer.  Once your student receives an offer, confirm the acceptance and you will need to complete and return all required paperwork within 7 calendar days.

Is there a tuition fee to attend RMA?
No, Rowlett Middle Academy is a public charter school and there is no tuition payment to attend.

Does my child need to wear a uniform?
Yes.  We have a uniform and school colors that must be worn to attend RMA.  Specific requirements are detailed in our Parent-Student Handbook.

Does Rowlett Middle Academy provide transportation?
Transportation is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Parents must sign up for bus transportation.  Bus hubs are located in various public locations around Manatee County.  Parents may also drop off and pick up students.  Students who live less than two miles away may walk or ride bicycles to and from school.  Rowlett Middle Academy also offers before and after-school care.
